(which we know already) Put the cap on tight, hop in the car and drive it while cold,if you can get it to run, drive, and stop, and get up to 55 on the highway it may not be in too bad of shape. ask the owner if you can drive the car for about 30 or 40 minutes, this gives you a good idea of how the car acts and feels, and you can check the bells and whistles in the process, make sure the lights all work, likewise the horn, radio and heater. make sure the brake lights work and the turn signals. The internal combustion engine has an ignition timing of 8 degrees. The ignition timing determines when a spark will occur to start the engine up. The ignition timing of your Daewoo can be thrown off from normal daily driving, but you can correct it with a few tools and basic mechanical skills. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Timing light Wrench Wheel chocks Step by Step : 1 Park your Nubira in an area where you can work on the engine, then turn the car on. Power off any accessories, including the air conditioning/heat and radio. 2 Place wooden wheel chocks under the wheels. Put the transmission in neutral if you have an automatic transmission and park if you have a manual transmission. Set the emergency brake and gradually bring the engine to an idle speed of 825 rpm. 3 Exit the car and allow the rpm to go back to zero. Open the hood. 4 Connect the timing light to the battery by placing the red clip on the positive terminal first and the black clip on the negative terminal second. 5 Connect the timing light clamps to the number one spark plug wire connected to the cylinder head. Shine the timing light on the pulley connected to the main crankshaft. 6 Check where the timing mark on the pulley falls in comparison to the degree tab on the front of the engine. You should now be able to see what the current ignition timing is. If the current ignition timing is at 8 degrees, stop here. If not, move on to the next step. 7 Find the distributor lock-down bolt at the base of the distributor housing and loosen it with your wrench. Disconnect the distributor vacuum hose from the distributor housing. You will now be able to adjust the ignition timing safely. 8 Rotate the distributor with your hand until the timing mark drifts to 8 degrees. 9 Connect the distributor vacuum hose back into the distributor housing and tighten the lock-down bolt with your wrench. Remove the timing light from the battery, spark plug wire and pulley. Step by Step : 10 Close the hood. Remove the wheel chocks and bring your engine back to its normal state.
